Hi!
First of all, big diet news! I'm about to hit (in 1.7 lbs) my second weightloss goal. It will be the weight I weighed when gary moved to Texas. Of course I was horribly ill then, so it's a second victory that I will be at that weight and feeling good instead of at death's door. After that, I have two more huge weightloss goals, but they feel totally doable. Okay so maybe getting to 170 doesn't feel doable yet, but hopefully by the time I hit 199 or something, it will feel that way.
I've been experimenting with low carb treats with some success. (Don't have any pics though sadly). Haven't ventured into baked goods really yet, but I did have an ultra low carb chocolate mug cake the other day! It would have been really good but I skimped on the artificial sweetener, making it a bit too bitter from the cocoa powder. Fixed it with some whip cream though, and just enjoyed something with a spongy bready texture in my mouth again.
Have also successfully made fake chocolates (rasp/almond, coconut/almond, pb/choc), a PB/choc smoothie, and a cheesecake flavored treat. It's a shame that I can't just stay away from sweets all together, but this diet has certainly helped me cut down and control myself, so I'll take that for now. Though my migraines have been getting worse lately, so I might be quitting all sweets sooner than I think (artificial sugar is a trigger apparently).
I've not had a single migraine since starting this diet, which is good for epilepsy and generally thought to be good for other brain conditions as well. But now I think I've had 3? 4? migraines since the 20th. They've always come in like clusters, and then gone away for awhile, but I really though that the diet had helped. I guess maybe it was just coincidence that they went away when I started and now theyre back just cuz.
Nausea was uncommon before, but now I've had it with all of them. One of them was the worst of my life pain-wise, I seriously wanted to go to urgent care. I thought my head would crack open! My most recent one though had unusual symptoms. My aura was all wacky when usually it's pretty predictable, lasted forever. Also had really cold hands and my eyeballs felt swollen, or numb or something. Vertigo too, but I caught the pain early with excedrine and caffeine thank goodness. It just really sucks. Really, really, really sucks. I can't take care of my kids when it happens, and Gary can't ever miss work. I am thankful that Willow is somewhat self sufficient and old enough to at least keep Maggie from doing something dangerous, but I hate that she has to be mom and nurse for hours at a time. I am praying they go away again soon.
July 11-19th I will be completely and totally MIA. It's a week long retreat of my own! We are going to stay in a tiny cabin way, way, way, at the very tip, the last stretch of land that is called Michigan. It's called Copper Harbor. You should look it up on google earth and look around, apparently its a very lovely place. With good beaches for rockhounding, so you can imagine how excited I am! :D It's going to be a huge money drain and a challenge to stay on my diet, but, it really is kind of like a once in a lifetime thing so we are not NOT going to do it, you know? Will have to be much more careful if I do go off my diet though, wow.
At the retirement/birthday/anniversary/fathers day party, I did not worry about being low carb, and I PAID. I paid so hard. I did not eat as many carbs as I would have pre-diet, but I did have a good amount. The next day was the worse hang over of my life, and I did not have any alcohol! Dizzy, GI trouble, nausea & vomiting, horrible headache (migraine #1), completely sluggish etc. I felt truly awful. I will not be doing that again, but I have decided one small treat here and there is okay. There's a famous bakery on the way there, so I will have 1 pastry. They have thimbleberry jam, which I've never tasted, so I will have 1 serving. I might have 1 smore if I feel like it, but other than that I plan to eat completely keto the rest of the time.
Which in itself is going to be a challenge, lol. Have to buy/pack enough food for 7 days for 4 people...and hope we have enough, none of it is wasted, and it isnt too expensive, and the coolers fit in the car! Ahhhh! Going crazy :p
I guess that's all my news for now....I could really use another brainstorming convo sometime if you're up for it, chat or text would work fine too. Need help connecting some dots.
Gary is off tomorrow and then he works 11 hours every day until we leave. :( Which means that we will both be cranky and in desperate need of a vacation when it finally comes.
How's things in Colorado? With Steve? Will? Doing anything for the 4th? We are not.
Loved reading your news and hope to hear from you again soon. BUnch more pics incoming today or tomorrow! Huggles!

Congratulations on weight loss dear sis. I wish I could lose more but I guess I am settling for muscle. You can finally see my little bicep lol and I am approaching 40 lbs of muscle gained while 60lbs of fat lost so I'm staying the same I guess.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are experimenting! If you can get almond flower you can totally bake wonderful treats. I want pics of deserts :P
I'm so so excited for you to go on a get away. I want pics of rocks lol
Try to stay on your diet while your gone. I know it will be hard but preplanning protein powder, gallons of milk, eggs, cheese sticks and black beans will help! Luckily family gathering food is pretty keto friendly already with the bacon, burgers and weenies. Get bags of veges like broccoli. To replace chips for at least yourself get the pork rinds. For a delicious desert alternative dip the rinds in melted chocolate!!! I also like cream cheese jalapenos! Apples are one of the more carb friendly fruits so have apple slices with peanut butter. Grapes are friendly too. So maybe a nut, chicken, grape salad. Take cream and butter to make things more filling. White chilli is the bomb! I have a super good recipe if you want. Chicken wings are cheap but if you bake them people will love them. I've learned to go ahead and pack cokes if anyone drinks them. People will be less grumpy without them and less caffeine headache.
Good luck and have fun!
Just coming back to comment that I did make almond flour shortbread cookies and brownies...and forgot to take a picture. *sigh
